Our Story

A doctor working in a poor community on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, started a charity service along with others to support the health of pre-mature babies born to financially disadvantaged families. Their goal is to establish incubator wards in a charity hospital to serve this need. In 2017 on his visit to Australia, this doctor shared the desperate need to save the lives of premature babies in such a poor community. Yet, unfortunately many of these families cannot afford the cost of this service and hence, many premature infants die for this reason.
After hearing such a strong calling to serve, a number of us inquired about the cost to purchase an incubator, the essential materials and the support required for trained medical staff to provide this service every year. This cost totalled to twenty thousand dollars per year.
To lend a helping hand, we arranged a fundraiser and raised enough to cover the cost of two incubators. This was the start of St Wanas Kids charity (Foundation). More incubators were offered year after year which means more premature born babies are given a chance to live.
A further need to support disadvantaged children in both Kenya and Malaysia with their educational and health requirements then emerged. This encouraged us to establish a special committee in St Wanas Foundation to look after this need.
Later, a third committee within St Wanas Foundation was established in 2018 to support families struggling with their childrenโ€™s schooling fees and activities here in Australia. This committee also initiated an annual grant offered to primary schools to cover the cost of educational materials.
Finally, in 2020 a report on โ€˜Modern Slaveryโ€™ was published exploring the maltreatment of disabled children around the globe. The alarming cases illustrated in this article moved St Wanas Foundation to establish a sub-committee to support children with mental and physical disability in many countries around the world including Australia.
