Unlike developed countries, children living in poverty have higher rates of disability and are more likely to be left untreated. This is due to greater government funding provided to support children with disabilities in developed countries, whereas government funding in third world countries are almost unheard of.

In poorer regions, a child with disability does not only face financial barriers to their development but cultural, social and educational barriers as well. Unfortunately, In many of these countries, a disabled child would be labeled as a cultural ‘shame’ to his/her family and in particular those with mental disabilities. Amongst many practices in poorer areas with limited funding, is spending the minimal funds a disabled child receives on their healthier siblings in order to afford them an education and a career to generate income for the whole family.

Fortunately, a number of non-government organisations are looking after these children in many ways in which there is a great need for donations to continue providing their support to these children. St Wanas Foundation is collaborating closely with some of these non-government organisations and with your help, we can provide continued care and education to less fortunate children in poorer areas around the world.
